Media Release:

The WPGA Tour of Australasia has announced the appointment of Jessica Dengate as President following the resignation of Nicole James.

Dengate, a fellow PGA Member and former Tour professional, has been Vice-President of the WPGA Tour Board since 2018 and will serve out the remainder of James’ term as President.

James joined the Board as a Director in 2020 and was appointed President following the WPGA Tour’s Annual General Meeting earlier this year.

James said the decision to step down had been a difficult one, but ultimately the right decision due to changing family care requirements alongside other key industry roles.

“I have always approached my role with a genuine commitment to our members and to creating more opportunities for women in professional golf. I remain incredibly passionate about the WPGA Tour, its members and the role we can play in continuing to grow the game,” James said.

“At this point, however, I need to balance that commitment with the demands of my full-time role as General Manager of Coolangatta & Tweed Heads Golf Club, my responsibilities on the PGA of Australia’s Vocational Members Council and important family care commitments outside of work.

“I have come to the conclusion that I cannot give the role of President the time and energy I believe it deserves.

“Thank you again for the trust and support you have shown me. I look forward to continuing to contribute to golf and our industry in the other roles I am fortunate to hold.”

Dengate thanked James for her contribution to the Tour and its members.

“Nicole has made an enormous contribution to the WPGA Tour throughout her time on the Board, highlighted by her contribution as President,” Dengate said.

“She has always brought a genuine passion for our members, for creating opportunities for women in professional golf and for continuing to grow the game. On behalf of the Board and our members, I want to thank Nicole for everything she has contributed.

“It is an honour to be appointed President. I look forward to working with Karen, our Board, the PGA of Australia and our members as we continue to build opportunities for our players and the future of the WPGA Tour of Australasia.”

Dengate will serve as President for the remainder of James’ current term following the Board’s decision to appoint her permanently, with further appointments to the WPGA Tour of Australasia Board to be announced in due course.
